Primary Schools
Walking, cycling or scooting to school has many benefits. It helps children lead an active and healthy lifestyle; it can provide benefits to mental health; it helps reduce congestion and pollution, and help to tackle climate change; it helps children learn to make positive lifestyle choices as they grow up; it teaches them independence.
My Journey aims to encourage walking, cycling or scooting to school wherever possible. To promote the benefits of sustainable travel to schools, we work with schools to set up walking buses and park and stride locations, run competitions and sustainable/road safety assemblies and take part in regular national events such as Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel and Walk to School Week. We have created a start-up guide for setting up a walking bus or park and stride which can be found under Related Downloads.
We have created two assemblies that can be found under Related Downloads one about Sustainable Travel to School and the other Why Walk or Cycle to School.
We also work with schools to create and monitor school travel plans using the Modeshift STARS platform.
