Summer Bike Bonanza got more than 100 people on bikes!
The My Journey Wokingham team ran a free Summer holiday Bike Bonanza at the FBC centre, as part of the Finchampstead Community Fun Day on 7th August 2019. The event was very popular, with more than 150 people taking part in the cycle related activities.
The team had a selection of children’s and adult bikes for people to borrow, including balance bikes, recumbent tricycles and pedal bikes and, during the day, bikes were loaned out to a total of 66 people. Cycling instructors were also on hand to help some children who were learning to ride a pedal bike for the first time.
20 people brought their own bikes to be checked at the “Doctor Bike” surgery and others attended a puncture repair workshop or made themselves a smoothie on the pedal powered smoothie bike. The team on the My Journey stand offered information on cycling activities, cycle training and cycle routes and gave out some free gifts to cyclists taking part in the event.
The Safer Roads Berkshire team ran a 60 second cycle challenge, with prizes to be won and 42 people had a go on this static bike challenge.
Sprockets Cycling Club from Arborfield added to the fun by offering mountain biking activities for children, including a bike obstacle course with bumps, jumps and bike limbo.
In the afternoon, a few families joined us on their bikes for a short family ride on the greenway to Arborfield Green.
The My Journey Team would like to thank everyone who came along to the event. A great time was had by all and we enjoyed meeting so many of you too!
