E-Bike Event - Saturday, 26th June 2021

The sun shone on Saturday 26th June for My Journey Wokingham’s first ever E-Bike Event, run in collaboration with Wokingham Town Council.

Electric bikes (or e-bikes) are a great way to increase physical activity, reduce our reliance on cars and reduce CO2 emissions. A lot of the health benefits gained from cycling can still be obtained by riding an e-bike, as riders still have to pedal and are out in the fresh air. An e-bike can offer the chance for people to get back into cycling or it can give current cyclists an added boost to help them cycle further, carry a heavy load or get up those hills at a faster pace.

Thank you to AW Cycles (Reading) and Velospeed Electric Bikes for bringing along some great e-bikes for people to try on the day, including Road bikes, Hybrids, Commuter bikes and folding bikes. Their staff were also on hand to give advice and answer questions.

People of all ages attended the event, with a total of 58 adults having a ride on an e-bike.

The My Journey team brought along some Balance bikes for the younger children to try and our Doctor Bike was kept busy, checking and fixing 10 bikes.  20 people took part in a bike challenge, run by the Urban Limits team from Safer Roads Berkshire, whilst the WATCH community group were also kept busy talking to people about cycling and active travel in the local area.

The Town Mayor, Councillor Tony Lack and the Mayoress came along and took to the track on e-bikes, as well as having a go on the bike challenge. We also had a visit from Earley Panda on his bike!

A couple of comments we received from some people that attended the bike:

We really enjoyed trying out the e bikes, so much so we are now trying to buy a ladies one, but unfortunately they are in short supply.

Thank you also to My Journey Wokingham for putting on the event, it was enjoyable and it really helped clear up in my mind whether I should buy my children balance bikes!

Thank you to everyone who attended this event. We hope you enjoyed it and learned more about electric bikes. We will be sending out a feedback survey to ask what people thought about the event and we hope to run something similar again in the future.
