Assembly and Prize Giving at Wheatfield Primary School

The My Journey Team delivered an assembly on sustainable travel and road safety to approx. 90 children at Wheatfield Primary School on Friday, 15th June.  The children learned the meaning of the word ‘sustainable’ and identified different types of sustainable travel.  They also learned how to stay safe when travelling by foot, scooter or bike including wearing hi-vis clothing on dull or dark days and wearing a helmet to protect their heads.

There was also a prize giving, following a caption competition that the pupils took part in last term, to complete the sentence ‘I like hi-vis because……’.  Two children with the best responses were presented with prizes including water bottles, hi-vis rucksac covers and hi-vis snap bands.  The winning captions were ‘I like hi-vis because they let cars, bikes and vans see me when I cross the road.  I like hi vis because it keeps me safe and protected from moving vehicles’ and ‘I like hi-vis because it is bright colours so people can see me’.
