First Bike Ride.png

The First Ever Bike Ride was 200 years ago today!

The first ever bike ride was 200 years ago today by Karl Drais.  On his first reported ride from Mannheim on June 12, 1817, Karl Drais covered 13 km (eight miles) in less than an hour. Constructed almost entirely of wood, the 'Draisine' weighed 22kg (48lbs), had brass bushings within the wheel bearings, iron shod wheels & a rear-wheel brake.

To celebrate Love to Ride are giving away a brand new bike. Everyone who logs a ride before 3pm today will go into the draw - so if you went for a ride over the weekend or came to work on your bike, log it here now. If not, go for a ten-minute ride at lunchtime!
