Launch of the Bike Lodge and “My time to Shine” event – Friday, 8th December 2017

Several local families and lots of children from Floreat Montague Park Primary School braved the cold weather on Friday evening (8th December from 4.00 – 6.00pm) to attend the launch of the “Bike Lodge” (My Journey Wokingham’s latest bike hub) in William Heelas Way, Montague Park, Wokingham.

The bike lodge now houses a variety of children’s and adult bikes (thanks to generous donations from local residents) as well as cycle helmets and equipment.  The launch evening was centred on the theme of being bright and visible (whether you are walking or cycling), including having lights and reflectors on bikes, wearing hi-vis or reflective clothes and attaching hi-vis/reflective accessories to bikes, school bags, etc.  Families had a go at a bingo game to try to find the brightly coloured pebbles which were hidden in the vicinity – each pebble had a number and they had to collect the numbers to complete a line on their bingo card. Prizes of sets of bike lights were given to all the lucky winners.

The younger children were able to have fun on the balance bikes, with cycling instructors in attendance to give them some tips and play some games.

The My Journey team are looking forward to running events at the Bike Lodge from the New Year, including cycling activities and cycle training (for children and adults), led rides and events to promote cycling, bike checks and  bike maintenance.
