Easter Bike Bonanza got 100 people on bikes!
The Free Bike Bonanza which the My Journey Wokingham team ran at the FBC centre, Finchampstead in the Easter holidays was a great success, with more than 100 people attending the “Try-out cycling” event.
The team had a selection of children’s and adult bikes for people to borrow, including balance bikes, recumbent tricycles and an electric bike and a total of 48 bikes were loaned out to people during the day.
33 other people brought their own bikes to be checked at the “Doctor Bike” surgery, or had them security marked by the Council’s Community wardens.
Families also took part in a Bike Treasure Hunt, attended a puncture repair workshop or made themselves a smoothie on the pedal powered Smoothie Bike, whilst the My Journey stand offered information and free gifts to cyclists taking part in the event.
Sprockets Cycling Club from Arborfield added to the fun by offering mountain biking activities for children, including bumps, jumps and bike limbo.
The My Journey Team would like to thank everyone who came along to the event and for the feedback from one parent:
“My husband was able to bring Harry and his younger brother (Joshua) to the Easter Bike event today. They all had a lovely day. My youngest Joshua has been ‘scooting’ on a bike since last September, and with some fantastic help from Elise (Bikeability instructor) Joshua is now pedalling! It was great for Harry to see Lloyd from Sprockets Cycle Club there (Harry goes to his classes and had a go on the bumps) and Gary (bike mechanic) was also really helpful with the boys.
It’s been a fabulous day - we are a little emotional that Joshua is riding a bike - and will keep up little and often practice with him. Both our boys have gained so much through the bike events and courses you have offered which is fantastic.
Thank you so much. Caroline”
