Bike security marking and Dr Bike at Twyford

On Monday 23rd October, the Communities team joined the My Journey team at Twyford and District Youth Club for a fun evening of bike-related activities.

Local young people had the opportunity to have their bike security marked by the Police to make it easier to trace if stolen and additionally less attractive to steal. Dr Bike was also in attendance to give any bikes a safety check and to carry out minor repairs and replacements where necessary. This included Dr Bike replacing old brake cables and brake blocks, tightening up saddles and handlebars, checking wheel nuts and the bike owners pumped their own tyres. Numerous sets of My Journey bike lights were handed out to anyone who didn't already have lights on their bikes, plus high visibility rucksack covers and water bottles too.

The evening's activities were rounded off by a self initiated competition of who could make the best bike powered smoothie, with Dr Bike Gary as the judge. The girls got off to a great start with their simple apple and pear smoothie, but the overall winners were the "Odd Squad" who used every single ingredient on the table and created a bright red berry, banana, pear and peach smoothie with apple and orange juice, plus some pear syrup as the secret ingredient!

Thanks to the youth club for inviting us all along and to everyone who joined in making it a great evening!
